Dextrous robotic hand

Modelled after the actual human hand, the dextrous robotic hand is a life-sized, five-fingered robotic hand that is capable of grasping and manipulating objects with human-like dexterity. Unlike exiting industrial robotic grippers that pick up and move objects but are unable to handle delicate items such as grasping an egg without breaking it, the dextrous robotic hand is able to lift heavy, bulky objects as well as perform dextrous manipulation. The dexterity is accomplished by a computer chip and light sensors attached to the hand, making it possible to calculate the force required for the fingers to grasp an object without squashing it or losing its grip. The finger movements are controlled with strings driven by small, high-speed motors.
